Youth Group Basics
Youth Group is on a 2 year cycle that coincides with our Confirmation Program. The set up is explained below, but to find out more you can always contact the Director of Faith Formation
In year 1, Youth Group is every Sunday, 4-6pm, and any youth in grades 6-12 are welcome. Confirmation students make up the majority of the group since they are required to have weekly faith formation. The focus of this group is on building community and giving young people a safe place to express their views while they learn to understand their faith. YG involves the games and activities like “Fearless”, but there are more discussions and introductions to some of the difficult teachings and concepts that youth sometimes struggle with. YG is meant to be a building block for young people who have a solid grasp of church teaching and scripture, but are wanting something more in depth in their faith while they have fun with their friends.
In year 2, we focus on going out and living our faith. We call this our Discipleship year. By not having weekly meetings our group has more flexibility to engage in more service projects and other activities in the parish and community. This becomes especially important for our students who have just been confirmed because they can then be immersed into the life of the parish after having completed all Sacraments of Initiation. This 2nd year encourages full participation in the life of the parish while still having events to build the youth community that was started in year 1. Students can begin at any point in year 1 or 2 and feel welcome and encouraged to participate fully in their faith!
