New in Faith Formation

Our new Faith Formation school year begins September 20, 2020, but it will look a little bit  different this year.
Due to COVID-19, we will not have in-person classes for at least the first half of the school year, and we will reevaluate in December for the second half of the year. Instead, we will be providing materials to use at home along with ongoing communication with a catechist to aid parents in continuing to help their children grow in their faith even though we cannot gather at this time. Packets will be sent home monthly and will include materials such as family prayer resources, weekly Gospel activities, videos, music, questions for discussion, and challenges to help each member of the family to grow in faith.

If your child is going into second grade and/or ready to prepare for their First Communion, please use the separate registration form. We will be in contact in September about how formation will be done this year. It will be very similar to past years since parents do most of the work at home.

WELCOME

"Being a Christian is not just about following commandments: it is about letting Christ take possession of our lives and transform them.” – Pope Francis
Faith Formation is more than just Sunday school for our youngest members, but it is truly helping our parishioners to see their Catholic faith as a way of life and their relationship with God as an everlasting bond. Ongoing faith formation is for everyone at all times! We want to invite all to take part in Faith Formation activities including classes and gatherings on Sundays, worship at Masses, celebration of Sacraments, service activities, and community celebrations. When we come together and encounters others we get to encounter Christ. When we see and learn about how Christ works through others, then we can look and see more clearly how Christ may be working in our own lives. The start of the new school year also starts a new Faith Formation year. Please consider becoming more involved in a new activity. If you have an idea for something you would like to see at the parish please do not hesitate to contact a staff member. God always has his hand outstretched to you with an invitation to a deeper relationship. It is your job to respond to that invitation. How will you deepen your relationship with Christ this year?

ClassTag Messaging System

ClassTag is a communication service that many educational systems use to get information out quickly and easily to parents. We use this service to remind parents when classes are cancelled, to alert them to when special events are coming up, and when we may have a special need or request. You will be asked on your registration form if you would like to receive your ClassTag registration through email or text message. If you do not receive your ClassTag invitation after submitting your Faith Formation Registration or need to add an additional email or phone number to ClassTag, please contact the Director.

First Reconciliation & First Communion

Picture
1st Reconciliation and 1st Communion Classes are offered for those children who have reached the age of reason, 7 years old. Preparation is usually done in 2nd grade, but parents may prayerfully choose when to start this preparation with their children after the child has turned 7. Please register before the start of the Faith Formation class year. The schedule of classes for the 2020-2021 school year will be posted by August. If you have any questions or concerns please contact the Director.

Celebrating Children at Church

Picture
To our parishioners:
  • Children are members of this community, a reminder that our Parish is alive and growing.
  • The way we welcome children in Church directly affects the way they respond to the church, to God, and to one another.
  • Let families know that they are at home in this house of worship

To our parents:
  • Relax! God put the wiggle in children. Don’t feel you have to suppress it in God’s house.
  • All are welcome.
  • Sit towards the front where it is easier for children to see.
  • Quietly explain the parts of the Mass
  • Sing the hymns, pray and voice the responses. Children learn liturgical behavior by imitating you.
  • If you leave Mass with your child, feel free to do so, but please come back. Jesus said, “Let the little children come to me.”
  • The nursery is open and available during the Sunday Masses. If a volunteer is present you may leave your child with them, if not, you may stay with your child and use it for as long as needed.

Please welcome our children and give a smile of encouragement to their parents.

The Nursery (currently suspended)

Picture
The Nursery is open during both morning Masses on Sundays. When volunteers are present, parents are welcome to drop off their children to be watched during Mass. If a volunteer is unavailable during one week, parents are welcome to stay with their children and make use of the space as a good place for restless young ones.

The nursery is open to all children under the age of 5. It is fully equipped with changing station, child sized bathroom, snacks, toys, TV and movies. We also have 2 rocking chairs and a comfortable area available for nursing mothers. We tend to keep the door closed so our mobile little ones don't run out, but please come in and see what the nursery has to offer for you and your growing family!

If you or someone in your family is interested in volunteering to help in the nursery, please contact the Director of Faith Formation & Youth.
